Carbon Footprint is an indication of the impact an activity has on climate change.

Carbon Footprint is expressed in equivalent CO2 and represents the total emission of greenhouse gases directly, or indirectly, associated with a product, organization or service.

Even though the name would suggest that only Carbon Dioxide is taken into account, in accordance with the Kyoto protocol, greenhouse gases also include methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, sulphur hexafluoride and perfluorocarbons.

Using analysis and calculation of their CO2 emissions, so measuring their Carbon footprint, companies who voluntarily sign an agreement with the Italian Ministry for the Environment, undertake to implement a system for carbon management to reduce emissions in a way which is economically efficient.
